Vibram Arch Disc Golf Test Flight Video with Disc Tracking

Vibram Arch Disc Golf Test Flight Video with Disc Tracking

I have been wanting to make a new test flight video for a while, but my work schedule has been a little crazy. The last video for the Vibram Vamp had a lot of positive feedback, so I wanted to make this one a little better. This week I had a few hours, and we had some great weather outside, so it was a perfect time to throw something together. This is the first installment of what is to come with the Vibram Arch video, because I compared the Arch side by side with an Innova Champion Eagle, and a Legacy Icon Rival. Even though I already reviewed the Vibram Arch and Vibram Notch in an earlier blog post, I wanted to revisit the Arch in a comparison video between two other disc golf manufacturers in order to see similarities and differences between similar disc molds.

Without giving the next blog post away, I was blown away by the similarities between the discs during the testing process. It was interesting to see that I put the discs within a few feet of each other multiple times during the field tests. The longer comparison video is taking a little longer than I would hope, but since I organized the Arch clips first, I went ahead and threw them together for a quick solo round with the Vibram Arch.

The MPH in the video are estimated from my experience at the GoPro Mountain Games in Vail, CO where we were able to measure disc speed. After spending 3 days throwing into a net, and measuring disc speed, I was able to get a pretty good average for what I do with “normal” shots. Throwing RHBH, I consistently hit 54-55 MPH, with peaks at 60. RHFH around 48-49 MPH, and LHBH around 340-41 MPH. With this in mind, went with the average disc speed from earlier this year for this video.

For those of you that are wondering, the equipment I used was as follows:

Video: Samsung Note 4 (my cell phone)

Video Editing: Sony Vegas Pro (making the video) and Adobe After Effects (making the tracking line)

Disc: 173M Vibram Arch

Distance Tracker: UDisc* (phone app that uses GPS)

*I have a range finder that I used  to verify accuracy of GPS the first few attempts.
